Business Manager

Build Consulting, a Washington, DC-based consulting firm for nonprofits, is looking to expand its team by hiring a part-time Business Manager. Build Consulting is growing, and this is an opportunity to work with a diverse team with individual perspectives, experiences, and talents who bring this all together to transform nonprofits.

You will work with employees, subcontractors, and the Partner team to perform a variety of administrative support activities to include supporting finance, sales, systems administration, subcontractor management, and general business management. The successful candidate will become a trusted team member.

What You’ll Do

The Business Manager will provide effective operational support within the company that positively impacts the work environment for all employees and subcontractors. All work will be performed under the guidance of Build partners and in collaboration with other Build staff as needed.

Who You’ll Work With

The Business Manager will partner with and assist other Build Consulting team members, subcontractors, and vendors with operational and project tasks.

Position is location-flexible within the United States. Some travel should be expected for occasional company meetings/retreats.

Responsibilities

  • Support the sales process through pipeline management, contract management, and reporting
  • Support financial management processes such as monthly reporting and invoicing
  • Help coordinate business-wide procedures
  • Perform tasks that enhance the data quality of Build systems
  • Work with third-party vendors as needed
  • Support company culture-building activities
  • Perform basic systems and user administration in support of service delivery and internal collaboration
  • Support the consistent execution of tasks by all staff through clear procedures and communications
  • Provide support where needed on client projects
  • Lead efforts to keep the company registered with and in compliance with appropriate jurisdictions
  • Organize personnel and subcontractor onboarding and offboarding
  • Schedule and coordinate all company meetings
  • Occasionally perform research in support of HR and benefits decisions

Core Competencies, Skills, and Abilities

  • 3+ years’ experience with back-office functions such as human resources, system and personnel administration, payroll, and finance
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organization and task management skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Comfort with a variety of software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Microsoft Teams, online payroll management, and project management software
  • Experience with DocuSign, WordPress, and Salesforce a plus
  • Ability to work independently but with a willingness to ask for help when needed
  • Desire to learn new systems and skills
  • Proactive in internal and client communication
  • Positive and collaborative attitude

Qualifications

Successful candidate for this position with Build should have:

  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent work experience that demonstrates the core competencies, skills, and abilities above. Build Consulting welcomes applicants with non-traditional educational backgrounds and encourages those with requisite core competencies, skills, and abilities to outline how their experience makes them well-qualified for the role
  • Experience in business operational areas
  • Experience with project management, reporting, and video conferencing tools and software
  • Comfortable working remotely, from a home office, and using collaboration tools to engage with team members and clients
